Frames should be tried on before ordering as very precise measurements need to be taken especially for bifocal and varifocal lenses. Spectacles and contact lenses are supplied to your individual requirements. We have a selection of designer frames by Calvin Klein, Guess, Gant, Gucci, Giorgio Armani, Tommy Hilfiger amongst others.
In addition we stock a wide variety of sports eyewear and lenses, for example covering squash, skiing and football as the main sports.
Modern spectacle lenses are increasingly complex and are predominantly made of plastic materials due to reduced weight and safety. Newer materials are nearly as thin as glass now. All our high quality lenses are available in glass, plastic or polycarbonate, and are produced by the best lens manufacturers, including Zeiss, Essilor, Hoya and Nikon.
Modern lens materials can now reduce the thickness and weight of your lenses whatever your prescription. Special coatings also help to reduce unwanted glare and reflections. Thinner lenses are made from materials which have a higher refractive index than standard glass or plastic. This means that lens thickness is needed to achieve the same focusing properties. Modern asperic designs also mean that the curvature of the lens will be flatter to give a beter cosmetic appearance. There are now many brand name opthalmic lenses and some manufacturers are well known in the photographic world eg Nikon, Kodak, Hoya, Essilor, Zeiss and many more. We can supply all these leading brands as well as generic alternatives.
Progressive lenses are often called varifocal lenses, enable clear vision at all distances where a different prescription is required for distance and near vision. Unlike bifocals they have no line to interfere with vision or to give away the fact that you need reading spectacles. Progressive lenses have continued to improve in design over the years to reduce the initial dsitortion that some people experienced with this type oflens and to make them far easier to adapt to. Nowadays there are many different designs of progressive lenses, different visual tasks or occupations which may be better suited to a particular type of lens. Professional help and advice is the only way to ensure that the correct lens is matched to your requirements.
Many opticians may promote a fast 1 Hour service as their selling point. We have our own on-site laboratory and can produce spectacles well within the hour, but in most cases this is not appropriate. We prefer to offer a wider choice of lens options and if this means ordering materials in that may take a day or two extra, we feel that the end result justifies it.
